Brenda Houston Bio
Brenda Houston launched her collection in the design industry after over 25 years of design experience. “I felt that there was a huge disconnect between residential, retail and hospitality design and recognized that there was an opening to offer organic pieces that are unique, unlike anything that had been seen before.” The end result is a sophisticated collection of items built around Houston’s philosophy that an item can be luxurious, yet financially attainable.
After studying Advertising at North Texas State University, Texas, Houston matured her keen sense of style while Visual Director for such prominent retailers as Bloomingdales, Saks Fifth Avenue and Barney’s New York.
Houston then moved to California where she directed visual for I. Magnin, the 1st department store built in Los Angeles. She quickly worked her way up to the Flagship stores in Beverly Hills & San Francisco, working directly with such great fashion designers as Giorgio Armani, Issey Miyake and Donna Karen.
“Good design projects reflect the best within each category- furniture, accessories, lighting. No one brand should stand out or take over but compliment each other to achieve the designer’s desired effect. The same philosophy applies to your home, a hotel room or a retail environment. We do a lot of custom work depending upon what a design firm’s needs are.”
Upon leaving I. Magnin, Houston became the Creative Director of Princess Cruise Lines and oversaw the design for on board boutiques located on the Grand Class Ships. Living mainly in Italy, France and Japan, and constantly traveling, Houston gathered a large collection of accessories from her travels and these influences can be seen today in her designs.
In 2002, Houston relocated back to her hometown of Dallas, Texas and oversaw the creative strategies for Zale Corporation. She concentrated on designing distinctive looks for each of the nine jewelry brands and in turn, was awarded Store Design of the Year for Bailey Banks and Biddle in 2005.
Relocating to Manhattan at the request of David & Sybil Yurman, Houston’s next focus was on the new store design for their jewelry collections. The end result was a sleek and sexy assemblage that earned the 2007 Best of the Year Merit award from Interior Design Magazine for the Beverly Hills store on Rodeo Drive.
Longing to be more involved in residential and hospitality projects, Houston decided to launch her own collection in 2008. “This is an exciting time for me, after ten years of concentrated design in the jewelry industry, I suppose I am transferring that over to designing jewelry for the home. I hope that my collections will yield a little luxury in your life.”
Houston balances her time between Dallas, Los Angeles, and New York with her dogs Cooper and Diego.
